bereavement adviceThe death of a loved one can be devastating. However, there is a lot of help available to support you and the people around you to cope with bereavement, grief and the loss of a loved one.

We have put together a useful directory of organisations that can provide you and your family with the help you need, when you need it.

Due to the current pandemic, some helplines may have changed their operating hours and local bereavement support services have had to suspend group and drop-in sessions but many are still offering telephone support and information. Please check the organisation’s websites for the latest information.

Most support offered is free but please check with the organisation when you contact them as some ask for a small donation or fee.

For professionals:

The bereavement support service, Sudden has now taken over the NHS Bereavement Helpline. Sudden is a not-for-profit service hosted by the support charity, Brake.

The helpline number will remain the same (0800 2600 400) but Sudden’s service will take and have responsibility for all calls to the number going forward, offering up to ten weeks of phone-based support.
